B. QUESTIONS ABOUT BOOKING, EXTENSION AND SEARCHING BOOKS
1. Who can become a member of the library?
Fırat University students, academic and administrative staff can become members.
2. What are the documents required for membership?
Fırat University ID card is required.
3. Is there a membership fee?
Membership fee for academic and administrative staff is 1.50 TL, membership for undergraduate/graduate students is free.
4. Where are the borrowing transactions made?
It is done at the lending units and Shelf Check devices on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors of our library.

6.Can I extend the period of the borrowed books?
All users can extend the duration of the book twice, unless there is an expired book on it. Extensions can be made from the lending units or “My User Account” on the library web page. The extension can be made up to five days before the book return.
7.Can a book be borrowed on behalf of someone else?
No, the book is never borrowed on behalf of someone else. In addition, it is obligatory to show Firat University ID during loan transactions.
8. I am an academic staff member at another university. F.U. Can I borrow a book from the library?
You can borrow a maximum of 4 books for one month through the library you work with within the scope of interlibrary loan (ILL).
9. How can I access the books that are not available in our library?
You can bring the books that are not available in our library with the interlibrary loan service. In order to benefit from this service, make sure that the book is in our collection by looking at the catalog. If it is not in our library, you can find out which library the book is in from the "National Collective Catalogue". You can make a request by filling out the "Interlibrary Loan Form" on the library web page or by contacting the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) officer.
You can also request it to be included in our own collection during the purchase period by filling out the "Book Request Form" on the library website.
10. How can I find the book I am looking for?
By using the catalog scanning kiosks on each floor or by scanning the catalog from the library web page, you can search for the book you are looking for from the title of the book, author name, subject, keyword, ISBN, etc. You can find the location numbers by scanning from the access ends. You can find the book you are looking for on the shelves with the help of the direction signs.
11. What should I do if I cannot find the book I am looking for?
While you are browsing the catalogue, you will see whether that book is borrowed or not, with the "return date" or "on the shelf" notification in the "status" section on the right of the screen. If the book is “on the shelf” and you can't find it, it may be in the process of placing it because it has just been returned to the library. In this case, ask the Lending unit.
12. The book I'm looking for is borrowed, can I find out who's on it?
No, third parties cannot learn library loan information.
13. I don't remember how many books I borrowed and their return dates. How can I learn?
You can learn from the lending units in the library. You can find out from outside the library by clicking the "My Loans" button from the "My User Account" on the library website.
14. Can I extend the duration of the books on me before I come to the library?
Yes, you can make an extension from the "My User Account" on the library website, from the button to the right of the book information on you. Only 5 days before the return date, the extension button will be active. If the return date of one of your books has passed, you cannot extend the period of the others.
15. Can I borrow periodicals, reference sources or theses?
Periodicals, theses, reference sources (dictionaries, encyclopedias…) are not borrowed. You can use it in the library and you can make photocopies of the sections you want. (Only the contents and bibliography of the theses are photocopied.)
16. How can I find out which books I have borrowed and returned in the past?
You can find out by clicking the "My returnings" button from "My User Account" on the library website.
17. What are the procedures and rules to be applied for the returned and lost material?
10 kr per day for each book whose return date has passed. penalty is processed. For lost library material, it is requested to get the same edition. In case of loss of out-of-print material, an equivalent (price and subject) material determined by the library must be purchased.
18. What is my user code, what can I do with my user code?
User code/Member code, institution registration number for personnel, student number for students. The password is defined by the library lending unit. With this number and password, you can see your reader information, the publications on you, the return dates, and you can extend the time 2 times.
19. Can I find out if the publication I am looking for is in the Library before I come to the Library?
Yes. When you browse the catalog on the library web page, you can see which resources are in the library.
20. What is the place number?
The place number is the number that allows the book to be cataloged and easily found on the shelf according to its subject. Thanks to this system, you can see books on the same subject together on the shelves.
21. What are the resources of reference?
Encyclopedia, dictionary, biography, almanac, guide, map, statistics, yearbook, etc. These are the resources. These are limited to use within the library. The required part (limited) photocopy can be made from these resources.
C. QUESTIONS ABOUT ACCESS
1. What does database, e-journal and e-book mean?
Database; It is a collection of information that stores articles, critiques or academic studies on a certain subject or subjects in electronic environment and presents them in a wide variety of search criteria. Electronic Journal and Electronic Book, on the other hand, can be a version of a printed journal or a book that has been transferred to electronic media, or they can only be stored in electronic media.
2.Can I access the databases from outside the campus (home/internet cafe etc.)?

3. What does trial databases mean?
They are databases that companies open to free access from time to time to promote them. Trial databases can be purchased by looking at the usage statistics and according to demand.
4. What are open access (free access) resources?
Open Access publications are digital, online, free, and exempt from most license restrictions. These publications are made available online and with the consent of the author or copyright holder. Its content is freely accessible to the whole world.
5. Where can I find the user guides of the databases?
On the databases page, there is a help guide opposite the database.
6.Can I download the articles in the databases to my computer?
As far as license agreements and copyrights allow, you can download the articles you have obtained as a result of your scans to your computer and send them to yourself via e-mail.
7. Is there training on the use of databases?
Yes. In line with the requests of the users and within the framework of the programs determined by the Library, face-to-face and online training is provided for databases.
8. Where can I search the most appropriate full-text or bibliographic databases related to the research topic?
The databases we subscribe to and their explanations are available under the heading "Databases" on the library web page. In line with these explanations, you can make your search by determining the appropriate database for your subject.
9. How to research an article?
Enter the "Databases" page from the library web page. From the descriptions next to the databases, you can click on the links of the databases under the title that is suitable for your research, and you can search in each of them (author's name, title, keyword, etc.) and access the articles related to your research. You can also search for articles at "TR Dizin".
If you want to search for citations, select "Sobiad" "Scopus" and "Web of Science".
D. QUESTIONS ABOUT PERIODIC PUBLICATIONS AND THESIS
1. Can I borrow periodicals and theses?
Periodicals and theses are only used in the library, they are not loaned out.
2. How can I find out if the journals I am looking for is in the library?
You can see the printed periodicals we subscribe to by scanning the catalog from the "Periodicals" field on the library web page.
3.Can I get photocopies of periodicals and theses?
Periodicals can be photocopied. In theses, only the contents and bibliography can be photocopied.
E. QUESTIONS ABOUT INTER-LIBRARY LOANING
1. What does interlibrary loan mean?
It is the service of mutual use of library material within the framework of cooperation between university and research libraries.
2.Who can benefit from this service?
Firat University academic staff can benefit from this service by filling out the "Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Request Form" under the forms on the library web page. Master's and doctoral students can benefit from this service on their behalf with the permission of their advisors.
3. How can I find out if the book I want has arrived in our library?
When the requested publication reaches the library, you will be notified by Nurten Özcan, the responsible staff member, via e-mail or telephone.(contact: nozcan@firat.edu.tr.-Ext:7353)
4.Do I have to pay any fees for requests?
Cargo arrival-departure fee is paid by the reader.
5. How long does it take for publications to arrive in our library?
If the publication is in the requested library, it reaches our library within 1 week at the latest.
6.I am a research assistant outside of Firat University. Can I borrow a book from your library?
You can borrow books from the library of Fırat University with the interlibrary cooperation form from the library of the institution you are a member of.
7. How many books can I get through interlibrary loan, for how long?
A maximum of 4 publications are loaned simultaneously for 30 days (including postal time) to the requesting library through interlibrary loan.
8. Is the period of books borrowed through interlibrary loan extended?
The time extension is made once, if the application is made to our library 1 week before the return date.
